Wednesday 4th March 2026, West Lancashire College Careers Event.
Supporting young people as they begin to think about their future careers is incredibly important. Many students have ambition and potential but simply need guidance, encouragement, and exposure to real-world opportunities. By engaging with students and sharing insights into different career paths, businesses can play a valuable role in helping them understand what their future could look like.
At our organisation, we enjoy speaking with students about the variety of roles available within our workplace. This includes careers in electrical engineering as well as the many business and office-based roles that support day-to-day operations. By explaining what these jobs involve and how different teams work together, students gain a clearer understanding of how organisations function and where their own interests might fit.
Students are often interested to learn that there are multiple routes into these careers, including university degrees, apprenticeships, and vocational training. Subjects such as maths, physics, and design technology can provide a helpful foundation, but curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn are just as important.
We also highlight the importance of business and office roles such as administration, project coordination, finance, and customer support. These positions are essential in helping projects run smoothly and ensuring organisations operate efficiently.
Just as important as discussing specific roles is taking the time to listen to students about their own goals and aspirations. Having open conversations can help them explore their interests, build confidence, and feel encouraged to work hard toward their ambitions. Sometimes, a simple conversation can inspire someone to think bigger about what they might achieve.
By sharing our experiences and offering guidance, we hope to empower young people to stay curious, work hard, and pursue the opportunities available to them.
